Göbeklitepe Tour From Istanbul

After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight to Urfa. As soon as you arrive in Urfa, we will drive to Harran to begin the program.

Harran, located 44 kilometers southeast of anlurfa near the Syrian border and on a road leading south to Nineveh (Ninova) in modern-day Iraq, was an important Mesopotamian trade center as early as 2300 B.C.

The mud-brick homes of Harran once shielded many from the scorching sun. However, they were progressively abandoned, along with traditional building techniques. The mud, hay, and brick beehive dwellings of southern Turkey’s Harran date back thousands of years. These dwellings’ distinctive dome-shaped roofs shielded families from the region’s scorching sun. However, when dams were constructed along the Euphrates, its inhabitants switched from raising livestock to cultivating cereals.

After visiting, we are heading to Gobeklitepe.Archaeologically classified as a Pre-Pottery Neolithic A Period (ca. 9600–7300 B.C.) site. Gobeklitepe is a collection of predominantly circular and oval-shaped structures atop a hill. Prof. Klaus Schmidt launched excavations in 1995 with the assistance of the German Archaeological Institute. Archeological evidence indicates that these structures were not used for domestic purposes, but rather for ritual or religious purposes. Subsequently, it became clear that Gobeklitepe contains not just one, but many of these Stone Age Temples. In addition, excavations and geomagnetic results have disclosed the existence of at least 20 structures that can be described as temples in archaeological terms. Based on what has been unearthed thus far, the pattern appears to consist of two monumental pillars in the center of each structure, surrounded by enclosures and walls with additional pillars in those configurations.
